I have been fascinated by the concept of "finance for good," which inspired me to pursue two internships with microfinance institutions in India and Indonesia. During these experiences, I spoke with people, read extensively, and reflected on how financial inclusion and entrepreneurship could create positive, lasting change. Upon returning to Singapore, I realized that the migrant worker community here could greatly benefit from these concepts. To make a meaningful impact, I reached out to partner with local organizations like the Alliance of Guest Workers Outreach, and thus, the "Dare to Dream" project was born. I hope this initiative leaves a lasting, tangible impact on the lives of the migrant workers we aim to support.

I’ve always been deeply interested in the communities around me. When I was introduced to this project idea, it immediately captured my attention because it felt both real and impactful. The idea of teaching individuals’ skills that could improve their lives and the lives of their families deeply resonated with me. These are people who leave their families behind to come to Singapore and play a crucial role in building our country—working on the building the roads, MRT, housing, and shopping malls that we enjoy. The thought that, despite all their hard work, they may not be able to secure their future is truly heart-breaking. This is why I am so passionate about this program: to help them acquire the skills they need to create a better future for themselves and their children.

When I first learned about this project from my seniors, I went to the Sembawang recreational centre and as I sat through one of the sessions with the workers, what really struck me was the stark reality that, despite living in a prosperous country, foreign workers here don’t have a minimum wage, with many earning as little as SGD 20 a day. The concept of financial inclusion, especially helping migrant workers plan for their retirement and savings, deeply resonated with me. I truly hope we can make a meaningful impact and improve their financial well-being.
